Privacy policy
Last updated 28 October 2026.
This policy explains what personal information Japan Travel Costs (japantravelcosts.com, "we") collects, why, and your rights. It is written to meet the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR and UK GDPR). Contact: japantravelcosts@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Newsletter sign-up (only if you choose to). The sign-up form collects the details you type in, such as your name and email address. The form is provided by GoHighLevel (LeadConnector), loaded from links.aiyour.work, and your details are stored and processed by GoHighLevel/LeadConnector in the United States. The form only loads after you tick the consent box next to it. When it loads, GoHighLevel's own scripts and servers may set cookies or use browser storage (for example a Cloudflare security cookie and form tracking data) under their own privacy terms.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and measure page speed. It does not use cookies or local storage and does not track you across sites. Cloudflare processes the request data (such as page, referrer, browser type and country) to produce aggregate statistics.
- Our own event counter. When you use a calculator or planner, change currency, copy or print a plan, or click an affiliate link, your browser sends a small message to our own address /e. We store the event name, a short detail (for example the currency chosen or route cities), the page path and your country as worked out by Cloudflare from your connection. We do not store your IP address, name, email or any identifier for you in these events.
- Currency guess. To show prices in your likely currency, your browser may ask our address /cc, which uses the country Cloudflare detects from your connection and replies with a currency code. Nothing is stored on our side. Your browser then saves the currency code in a first-party cookie called jtc_cur (30 days).
- Settings saved in your browser. Your chosen currency, light or dark mode, and the inputs of calculators and planners are saved in your browser's local storage (keys starting with jtc_) so they are there next time. They stay on your device and are not sent to us. You can clear them in your browser settings.
- Server logs. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as IP address and browser details to deliver and protect the site.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use advertising trackers.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use newsletter details only to send the newsletter you asked for (Japan travel tips, emailed weekly). Our lawful basis is your consent (GDPR and UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing us. Analytics, the event counter and currency guess help us keep the site working and improve it; they do not identify you, and to the extent GDPR applies they rely on our legitimate interest in running a useful, secure site (Article 6(1)(f)). The jtc_cur cookie and local storage settings are functional: they only remember choices that make the site work the way you set it.
How long we keep it
Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Event counter records are kept in aggregate form for as long as they are useful for improving the site. Analytics data is retained by Cloudflare under its own retention settings.
International transfers
Newsletter details are processed by GoHighLevel/LeadConnector in the United States, and Cloudflare operates a global network, so your information may be handled outside your country, including outside Australia, the EU and the UK. We rely on these providers' contractual safeguards for international transfers. By ticking the consent box you also agree to your sign-up details being sent to the United States for this purpose.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to withdraw your consent. Under GDPR and UK GDPR you may also ask us to restrict or object to processing and to receive your data in a portable form. Email japantravelcosts@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm it is you before acting.
Complaints
Please contact us first at japantravelcosts@gmail.com so we can try to fix it. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in Australia, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK, or your local EU data protection authority.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their details.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
Affiliate links
Affiliate disclosure: some links on this site (for example Klook, Airalo and Aviasales links, marked rel="sponsored") are affiliate or referral links. If you book through one, the site owner may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes the prices we show, which come from official operator sources.
