Route and train

Trains run from Nagoya to Shin-Osaka, not Osaka Station; JR local trains link the two. The fare shown is for a Nozomi, the first train listed by the source. With a JR Pass, Hikari and Kodama need no extra ticket, while Nozomi needs the special ticket shown below.

Does the JR Pass cover it?

Pass holders who want Nozomi or Mizuho need a NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket: ¥2,530 (about US$16) per adult per ride on this route (official Japan Rail Pass site, last checked 2026-11-02).

Is a JR Pass worth it for this trip?

A round trip (¥13,360) is about 27% of a 7 day JR Pass (¥50,000). On its own this route will not justify a pass; single tickets are cheaper unless the rest of your week involves several long trips.

Local JR lines

The JR Pass also covers local JR lines in Osaka. Our location planner adds a simulated estimate, not a quote, of about ¥380 a day there (2 rides x ¥190 (JR West Kansai urban fare, 7 to 10 km)). Local JR tickets in the big cities typically run from ¥140 to ¥720 a ride.
